Scottish Prime Minister Nicholas Sturgeon hopes the country will soon rejoin the EU [8 January 2021]

Scottish Prime Minister Nicholas Sturgeon hopes the country will soon rejoin the EU "As an independent member of the European Union, Scotland will be a partner and bridge builder," Sturgeon wrote on the Scottish National Party's (SNP) website. The majority of Scots voted to stay in the European Union during the Brexit referendum in 2016, boosting the movement for Scotland to leave the UK.

After losing the independence vote in 2014, Scottish National Party (SNP) leader Sturgeon spearheaded a call for a new referendum and hopes to join the EU if he fulfills his dream. "We are now facing a severe Brexit against our will, at the worst possible moment in the midst of a pandemic and economic recession," Sturgeon said in early 2021.
